ICH was founded in 1992 by four individuals who wanted to do things differently. Each brought their own experience in the mechanical services industry, but what united them was a shared belief: that a company should stand for financial independence, technical excellence, honesty, and a commitment to customer service above all else.
Originally known as Industrial & Commercial Heating, the company soon evolved. By 1997, the rise of comfort cooling in the UK meant that businesses needed a more complete solution, and ICH adapted. That mindset of adapting to client needs has defined us ever since.
From those early years, ICH has grown steadily, working with many blue-chip organisations while staying true to a principle that still guides us today: no single client should ever account for more than 10% of revenue. This ensures stability and protects both our clients and our people.
In 2015, we expanded beyond our well-established HVAC and Electrical services to provide bundled facilities management. Many of our long-term clients have since chosen to move from standalone contracts to fully integrated services with us.
Today, we support around 1,800 customers across more than 5,600 sites nationwide. Our 120 directly employed staff are supported by a trusted partnership network of over 450 engineers, allowing us to provide reliable service at scale while keeping close control of quality.
What sets us apart is our approach. We build long-term relationships because we know that real service isn’t just about equipment; it’s about understanding people and businesses. We adapt our advice to fit each client, and we hold ourselves accountable at every step. That honesty and accountability is what earns trust, and trust is what keeps relationships lasting.
We also bring technical rigour to everything we do. Our condition reporting, based on CIBSE Guide M, gives clients a clear view of their assets and helps shape robust, long-term capex strategies. It’s one reason why we’re known for saving costs in reactive breakdowns, even if our service isn’t always the cheapest upfront. As we often remind our clients, the price is not always the cost.
Looking ahead, our mission is clear. With our “30 by 30” goal to reach £30 million turnover by 2030, we’re focused on sustainable growth, not unchecked expansion. We don’t want to be the biggest FM provider, but we do want to be the most trusted and specialist.
That balance of history, expertise, and values is what continues to define ICH, more than 30 years after it began.
