FAQs

Q1. What does ICH stand for?

ICH was originally founded in 1992 as Industrial & Commercial Heating. As our services expanded beyond heating, the business became known simply as ICH, reflecting our wider capabilities.

Q2.How long have ICH been trading?

We’ve been trading for over 30 years. Founded in 1992, ICH has grown steadily while staying true to its founding values of technical expertise, honesty and customer service.

Q3. What geographic region do you cover?

We provide full national coverage across the UK, supporting more than 5,600 sites for over 1,800 clients.

Q4. Where are your engineers based?

Our directly employed engineers are spread across the UK, supported by a nationwide partner network. This allows us to deliver both planned and reactive services wherever our clients operate.

Q5. Do you offer emergency support?

Yes. Our nationwide reactive support service provides fast attendance to breakdowns, with a focus on first-time fixes to minimise downtime.

Q6. How many people do ICH employ?

We directly employ around 120 staff, with access to a further 450 engineers through our trusted partner network.

Q7. Are your engineers multi-skilled?

Yes. Our HVAC and electrical engineers are trained to handle a wide range of building systems. For specialist services, we use carefully selected contractors who are audited annually to meet our standards.

Q8. What accreditations and certifications do you hold?

ICH is accredited to ISO9001 (Quality), ISO14001 (Environmental Management) and ISO45001 (Health & Safety). We also hold industry certifications across HVAC, electrical and compliance services, ensuring the highest standards of safety and delivery.

Q9. Why choose ICH over a larger FM provider?

We combine the expertise of a specialist with the coverage of a national provider. Unlike many FM companies, we self-deliver HVAC and electrical services, which means we know what good looks like and can hold subcontractors to the same standard.

Q10. How do you ensure compliance for your clients?

Every service is delivered in line with statutory requirements and industry best practice. Our CAFM system tracks all planned and reactive works, evidencing compliance, while our enhanced condition reporting provides insight beyond the minimum standard.

Q11. Can you support multi-site businesses?

Yes. Many of our clients operate large national estates. Our systems and teams are built to deliver consistent service, reporting and compliance across hundreds of sites.

Q12. Do you only work with large clients?

No. We work with businesses of all sizes, from single-site operators to national chains. Every client receives the same level of service and reporting, regardless of scale.

Q13. Can you provide bespoke service packages?

Yes. We build service delivery around your specific needs, whether you require a single discipline or a bundled FM solution. Compliance is always fully covered, so flexibility never comes at the expense of assurance.

Q14. What industries do you work in?

We support clients across manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, retail, hospitality, offices, healthcare and more. Our approach adapts to the nature of each sector, ensuring compliance and reliability where it matters most.

Q15. Do you offer capex planning support?

Yes. Our condition reporting, based on CIBSE Guide M, allows us to forecast asset life and provide clear, long-term capex strategies. This helps clients avoid unexpected costs and plan investment with confidence.

Q16. How do you maintain quality across subcontractors?

All subcontractors are carefully vetted and audited annually. They are required to meet ISO9001, ISO14001, and ISO45001 standards, ensuring their work aligns with the same level of quality and accountability as our self-delivered services.

Q17. Are you the cheapest provider?

We are not the cheapest, and we don’t aim to be. Our planned maintenance approach often reduces costs over time by lowering reactive breakdowns and extending asset life. As we often say, the price is not always the cost.

Q18. How do you measure performance?

We track performance through SLAs and KPIs in our CAFM system, giving clients complete transparency. Regular reporting ensures accountability, and enhanced condition insights provide an extra layer of value beyond compliance.
