ICH Services successfully delivered critical facilities management (FM) upgrades for Waitrose Saxmundham, significantly improving reliability, energy efficiency, and overall system performance. The project required major mechanical and electrical (M&E) works within a live retail environment; therefore, our team planned every stage with precision. Moreover, we worked closely with Waitrose to ensure smooth delivery from initial planning through to final completion. In addition, we focused on maintaining full operational continuity while meeting strict safety and sustainability targets.
The FM upgrades included replacing ageing refrigeration systems, renewing condenser and heating pipework, and converting gas-powered equipment into efficient electric solutions. Furthermore, new air handling units were installed to improve ventilation, indoor air quality, and customer comfort. As a result, each improvement directly supported Waitrose’s commitment to reducing carbon emissions and enhancing long-term store efficiency.
The site presented several critical challenges; as a result, a structured upgrade plan was necessary:
Aging refrigeration systems risking product integrity.
Inefficient M&E infrastructure, leading to higher operational costs.
Limited downtime availability, as the store remained fully operational.
Energy inefficiencies, including reliance on gas-powered systems.
ICH Services implemented a structured upgrade program to address these challenges efficiently:
Refrigeration System Replacement: Modern, high-efficiency refrigeration units installed.
M&E Upgrades: Electrical and mechanical works streamlined for optimal performance.
Air Handling Unit Improvements: Upgraded to enhance air quality and reduce energy consumption.
Sustainable Energy Transition: Shift from gas-powered systems to fully electric solutions.
Minimized Operational Disruption: Works scheduled to avoid impact on daily retail activities.
To overcome these challenges, ICH implemented a series of coordinated improvements. Each step was carefully scheduled; moreover, every upgrade supported long-term operational efficiency:
Enhanced Reliability: Reduced system failures and maintenance requirements.
Energy Efficiency Gains: Lowered energy consumption and operational costs.
Operational Continuity: Store remained fully operational throughout the upgrades.
Sustainability Impact: Transitioned to more environmentally friendly energy systems.
