M&E Upgrades for Metroline Edgware

Metroline Edgware

Mechanical and Electrical Upgrade at Metroline Edgware

Overview

ICH Services successfully completed a full mechanical and electrical (M&E) upgrades at the Metroline Edgware depot. The project delivered modernised HVAC, electrical infrastructure and energy-efficient systems, improving reliability, safety, and long-term performance. Moreover, our team coordinated closely with Metroline to ensure smooth delivery throughout , from planning and installation to handover,  all while maintaining operational continuity in a live depot environment.

Project Challenges

Before the M&E upgrade, the Metroline Edgware depot faced several key issues:

  • Outdated HVAC and ventilation systems, which led to inconsistent air quality and inadequate environmental control.

  • Aging electrical infrastructure, making maintenance increasingly difficult and reliability unpredictable.

  • Energy inefficiencies, with systems running at suboptimal performance and high utility costs.

  • Requirement to maintain depot operations, meaning all work needed careful scheduling to avoid disruption.

  • Safety and compliance constraints, including modern standards for electrical and mechanical works in transport facilities.

Our Solutions

To overcome these challenges, ICH Services implemented a phased M&E upgrade programme. As a result, work was completed efficiently without disrupting depot operations:

  • Modern HVAC and ventilation overhaul: Installation of upgraded air handling units, ductwork, and controls to ensure consistent air quality, temperature regulation, and improved comfort for staff.

  • Electrical infrastructure renewal: Replacement of outdated wiring, switchgear and distribution systems, bringing the depot up to modern safety and performance standards.

  • Energy-efficient systems and controls: Upgraded equipment selected for lower energy consumption and improved efficiency, contributing to long-term operational savings.

  • Phased execution and flexible scheduling: Works planned around depot operations, with certain tasks carried out during off-peak hours to minimise disruption.

  • Close coordination with Metroline management: Regular communication to align works with depot needs, ensure safety, and guarantee compliance with rail-industry standards.

Project Results

The upgrade delivered tangible benefits for Metroline Edgware:

  • Enhanced system reliability and safety, new M&E systems reduced breakdown risk and improved compliance with current standards.

  • Improved environmental conditions, better HVAC and ventilation enhanced working conditions across the depot.

  • Reduced energy consumption and operational costs, more efficient systems lowered energy usage and ongoing maintenance requirements.

  • Minimal operational disruption during works, phased scheduling and close coordination, depot operations continued smoothly.

  • Future-proofed infrastructure, modern systems provide a robust foundation for future maintenance and potential expansion.
